Americans have been urged to drink less alcohol as teetotal Trump cracks down on alcohol recommendations.

In the new dietary guidelines released Wednesday, officials recommended that Americans should ‘consume less alcohol for better overall health’.

They urged pregnant women, those recovering from alcohol use disorder, those taking medications that could interact with alcohol and those who are unable to control the amount they drink to avoid alcohol completely.

The new guidelines did not appear to mention specific daily limits on the amount of alcohol someone should consume.

Previously, this was set at no more than two drinks a day for men and no more than one drink a day for women.

Dr Mehmet Oz, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, sai the new guidelines were meant to encourage drinking in moderation.

He said at a press conference: ‘There is alcohol on these guidelines, but the implication is don’t have it for breakfast.’
