President-elect Donald Trump has appointed British television producer Mark Burnett as the Special Envoy to the United Kingdom, adding another high-profile name to his administration. Trump praised Burnett’s extensive experience in business and television, calling it a valuable asset for strengthening U.S.-UK relations.
“It is my great honor to appoint Mark Burnett as the Special Envoy to the United Kingdom,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social. “With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique blend of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.”
Burnett, widely known for producing hit shows such as Survivor, Shark Tank, The Voice, and The Apprentice—which Trump starred in for 14 seasons—has earned significant accolades, including 13 Emmy Awards. Trump noted, “Mark is known for creating and producing some of the biggest shows in television history. He is the former Chairman of MGM.”
In his new role, Burnett will focus on enhancing diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom, particularly in areas like trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. Unlike the U.S. ambassador post, which requires Senate confirmation, the special envoy position does not.
This announcement follows Trump’s earlier nomination of billionaire businessman Warren Stephens as U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, further signaling Trump’s commitment to strengthening ties with one of America’s closest allies.
